NDT Non-Destructive Testing 

NDT Means: It means inspecting a weld without damaging or breaking it, so the part can still be used after testing.

What NDT Does In Welding:

• Finds cracks, porosity, and lack of fusion.
• Checks the strength and quality of welds.
• Ensures safety in structures like pipelines, bridges, and pressure vessels.

Common NDT Methods Used In Welding:

1. VISUAL TESTING (VT)

• First and simplest method.
• Done with eyes or magnifying tools.
• Finds surface defects like cracks undercut.

2. ULTRASONIC TESTING (UT)

• Uses sound waves.
• Detects internal defects.
• Very accurate for thick materials.

3. RADIOGRAPHIC TESTING (RT)

• Uses X-rays or gamma rays.
• Shows internal defects on film/image.
• Like taking an X-ray of the weld.

4. MAGNETIC PARTICLE TESTING (MT)

• For ferromagnetic materials (like steel).
• Detects surface and near-surface cracks.

5. Dye Penetrant Testing (PT)

• Uses colored liquid dye.
• Shows surface cracks clearly.
• Works on many materials.
