Silver Solder Composition and Melting Temperature

Silver solder (also called silver brazing alloy) is a type of filler metal used to join metals at high temperatures—typically between 600°C and 800°C—but below the melting point of the base metals.
The exact melting temperature depends on the percentage of silver and other alloying elements (like copper, zinc, cadmium, or tin).

Here’s a general guide:

Silver Content (%)    Common Alloy Composition    Melting Range (°C)    Notes
15% Silver    Ag–Cu–Zn    630–800°C    Economical, general-purpose use
25% Silver    Ag–Cu–Zn    620–760°C    Good strength, moderate flow
35% Silver    Ag–Cu–Zn    605–730°C    Good for brass, copper, and steel
40% Silver    Ag–Cu–Zn    600–700°C    Smooth flow and strong joints
45% Silver    Ag–Cu–Zn–Cd (or Cd-free)    640–680°C    Common for HVAC and precision joints
50% Silver    Ag–Cu–Zn    620–660°C    Excellent flow, high strength
56% Silver    Ag–Cu–Zn–Sn    620–630°C    Low melting point, best capillary flow

Higher silver content = lower melting temperature and better flow, but also higher cost.
